Este es, por tanto, el segundo avance del álbum 'The Idol Vol. 1' que tiene por contar las canciones que contendrá y que llega como BSO de la serie de HBO dirigida por Sam Levinson, que se estrenará este domingo 4 de junio.

La esperada serie dramática musical de HBO, "The Idol", promete bucear en los alrededores oscuros de la industria de la música. Recordemos que en la reciente edición del Festival de Cannes, pudo verse un adelanto en la zona no competitiva. Más adelante recogeremos datos de la serie y, por supuesto, de la inminente puesta en marcha de la gira de The Weeknd (o Abel Tesfaye, como pretender llamarse tras eliminar a The Weeknd).

'Popular' y jugar con las voces

El resultado de la canción es un espléndido juego de voces y estilos donde encaja Madonna, la reina del pop, mientras el rap del también norteamericano Playboi Carti despunta en el recorrido sinuoso que marca The Weeknd.

'Popular' se suma al tema que llegaba junto a Future titulado 'Double Fantasy' que Tesfaye interpretaba primero en directo y luego lanzaba en abril con este videoclip oficial:

"The Ido", la serie

Un turbio mundo en torno a la industria musical es el argumento de la serie de HBO que protagoniza Lily-Rose Depp y Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd. Ambos están acompañados por Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, Rachel Sennott, Steve Zissis, Hari Nef y Juliebeth Gonzalez como personajes secundarios.

En una entrevista con Interview Magazine, The Weeknd relataba cómo ve a Tedros, el personaje que interpreta: "Lo escribí, pero lo que me atrajo a interpretarlo fue pretender ser otra persona. Fue un desafío, porque The Weeknd, obviamente, no soy yo. Pero saqué mucho de mí mismo para crear ese personaje. Tedros no se parece en nada a mí".

Dos días después del estreno televisivo The Weeknd comenzará, el 6 de junio, su gira antes de presentarse el sábado 10 de junio en Manchester, Reino Unido en el Etihad Stadium, con paradas en Europa y América Latina en Estocolmo, Ámsterdam, Ciudad de México, Río de Janeiro y más antes de concluir en octubre en México. Y siempre pendientes de su parada en España con su doblete en julio en Madrid y Barcelona.

Recordemos que en junio de 2021, Abel Tesfaye anunciaba que crearía, produciría ejecutivamente y coescribiría una serie dramática para HBO junto a Reza Fahim y Sam Levinson. El mismo día, Ashley Levinson y Joseph Epstein fueron anunciados como productores ejecutivos de la serie. Nos quedamos también con las declaraciones de Francesca Orsi, vicepresidenta ejecutiva de programación de la empresa de entretenimiento que asegura que "Cuando los polifacéticos Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim y Sam Levinson nos trajeron ‘The Idol’, quedó claro que su versión subversiva y reveladora del culto a la industria de la música no se parecía a nada que HBO hubiera hecho antes".
